Our Journey of Inspiration

At Project Outer Tee, our vision for a sustainable future was deeply influenced by pioneering ideas. This page is dedicated to Josh Chaiken, whose insightful talk on Central Social Districts versus Central Business Districts ignited a new perspective in our approach to urban development and sustainability. His philosophy is a cornerstone of our vision.

The Spark

Josh Chaiken's Vision

Josh Chaiken, a principal architect with over 30 years of experience at Kohn Pederson Fox (KPF), one of the world's largest architecture firms, profoundly shaped our thinking. With KPF's global presence, including headquarters in New York and offices in major international cities like London and Hong Kong, Josh's Central Social District philosophy offered a powerful framework for revitalising urban areas. His expertise underscores the importance of thoughtful, human-centred design.

Reimagining SHED 1

A Carbon-Zero Hub

Inspired by Josh Chaiken's vision, the redevelopment of Shed 1 on Wellington's Queens Wharf became a flagship project for Project Outer Tee. Our main idea was to create a truly carbon-zero, sustainable, and ecological social hub right at the waterfront. This ambitious project aims to blend environmental responsibility with community-focused design, fostering a lively and resilient urban space for all to enjoy.

Resilience through social connection

Josh Chaiken's philosophy highlights a critical insight: for cities to remain resilient, they must prioritise social connectivity and pedestrian experience. These are the key tenets that guide our project, starting with the SHED 1 redevelopment. We believe that by creating spaces that encourage interaction, walking, and community engagement, we can build more vibrant, sustainable, and future-proof urban environments here in Wellington and beyond.

"Josh Chaiken's insights is a profound catalyst, demonstrating how visionary architecture and urban planning can transform communities and inspire a more sustainable future. This commitment to human-centric, eco-conscious development is the very heart of Project Outer Tee."
